Travel Diary: Mexico

So, it's been two and a half weeks since my trip, and I thought I'd finally get around to sharing some of the photos of my trip to Mexico. Better late than never, right? It was such an adventure, and now I'm dying to get back.

While in Akumal, we did loads of snorkeling, spotting a few sea turtles and a couple of stingrays. In addition to time at the beach, we swam here, in Yal-Ku lagoon (fulfilling all my childhood Little Mermaid fantasies).

We also went to at least a half dozen cenotes, the beautiful freshwater limestone sinkholes that come in all shapes and sizes. Some were underground caves (including one full of bats-- eek!), while others more like rocky pools. In one of the cenotes, I tried scuba diving for the first time!

The inner archaeologist/Indiana-Jones-wannabe in me was absolutely awestruck by all the Mayan ruins we encountered, with day trips to the sites of Coba and Chichen Itza.

Our last morning there we swam on the beach along the ruins of Tulum-- warm, turquoise waters in the against the striking backdrop of a ruined Mayan city. Take me back!
