DIY Thread Earrings

I don't wear dangly earrings often, though my earring collection says otherwise. I often feel like stud earrings are more appropriate for my workday attire, which I try to keep fairly simple. These DIY thread earrings, however, might be the exception to this rule. With their shorter drop and clean shape, they're easy elegance in an earring, and I love how they dangle and catch the light. Read on to find out how to make your own DIY thread earrings. It's a piece of cake!

Inspiration: Threaded Earrings

It's a little hard to pin down just what to call this style of earrings. Pull-through earrings? Threader earrings? Ear threads? Regardless of what you want to call them, I think they are a fun style that's distinctive and even delicate, depending on what you attach to them. I'll share my DIY version later this week, so stay tuned!

Happy almost end of October?! I don't even want to talk about it. It's time, however, for a new set of blogs for the almost monthly bloglove series. Enjoy!

Guest Post: DIY Colorblocked Sweater

I don't post too many clothing DIYs on Thanks, I Made because of my lack of sewing skills (and machine), so I'm excited to fill that void with a guest post! Today fellow DIY blogger Marta from 2nd Funniest Thing is sharing a very cool colorblocked sweater DIY perfect for updating any old ones in your closet. Enjoy, and be sure to check out her blog if you don't already. I love how she DIYs so consciously and rethinks using old materials rather than buying new ones!

Hello to everyone, my name is Marta and I'm a DIY blogger from Barcelona passionate about making beautiful things with my hands. In my blog called 2nd FunniestThing, I love to encourage people to work with what they already have or with 2nd hand stuff. I’m sure facing life with DIY attitude can help us to take care of our planet because we change our consumption habits. Don’t you think so?

Since I saw Erin asking TIMI readers to send pictures of our projects I decided to collaborate. Given that TIMI it’s one of my favorite DIY blogs this is such an honor for me, really!! Here you are my project inspired on Stellas Mccartney’s color blocksweater which I loved at first sight. It’s a bit different because it opted for a more heart like shape but anyway hope it motivates you to think before you trash any old piece!

Roundup: Skull Jewelry DIYs

After posting to Facebook last week-- wait, you like Thanks, I Made It on FB, don't you? I'll wait while you give it a click-- about a short and simple DIY skull bracelet from fall a few years back, I've got skulls on the brain (or, er, brains in my skull?) again. So, here's an assortment of DIY skull jewelry projects that feel appropriate for the spooky Halloween season and chic all year round.

DIY J.Crew-inspired Braided Necklace

Ever since August when the fall J.Crew style guide showed up in my mailbox (or rather, my parents' mailbox since I was back home--full disclosure-- enjoying week of Doritos and binge sleeping before the new school year), I've had the embroidered necklaces (seen here and here) on my mind. While the jeweled pendants are beautiful, I loved most the simple square knot macrame construction of the silk cord. While I went for a subtler necklace, you can always make some fancy pendants from studs and rhinestones to better mimic the original!

In a rich and quintessentially fall color, a pared-down but still sparkly version of the necklace made it to the top of my to-DIY list this autumn. I found the perfect cord online (available in a just-right length!) and was able to tie it up using the simple macrame square knot in less than half and hour. Perfect in-front-of-the-TV activity for a fidget like me!

Inspiration: J.Crew Necklaces

Hi friends! Hope you've had a wonderful weekend (or still are having a great long weekend, for those in the US). I had a lovely time with my best friend in town, showing her my favorite parts of DC. While there wasn't much for me by way of DIY, I did put together a necklace a few weeks ago inspired by these wonderful J.Crew necklaces. I'll share the tutorial on Wednesday, but until then, here's the inspiration!

DIY Inspiration: Embellished Jackets

Looking for some fall DIY inspiration? Give those blazers from Grandma's closet or Mom's '80s power suits new life with some easy-to-add embellishment, like trim, a braid, or studs. Which trim is your favorite?

DIY Crystal Fan Earrings

Happy Monday! I've been on furlough since last Tuesday because of the government shutdown (my preschool is run in a federal building here in DC), so I'm making lemons into lemonade, or rather, rhinestones into earrings!

After last week's post on my latest color crush, emerald green and cobalt blue, I had to DIY something easy to bring those colors together. I've also gone a little crazy pinning different styles of crystal fan earrings (especially love this pair from Elizabeth Cole). Combining the two trends, I created these DIY crystal fan earrings, using some crystals I had on hand with petite rhinestones from Wander & Hunt. The trick to these do-it-yourself earrings? Using wax paper let's you glue without worrying about your earrings sticking to your work surface.

Inspiration: Cobalt vs Emerald

I've professed my love of cobalt not long ago, but now I've had my eye on emerald-hued baubles. Which do you prefer, shades of lapis and dazzling blue (Pantone's spring '14 color of the season!) or emerald green (the color of 2013)?

DIY Simple Crystal Cuff

Ready for something easy? These kinds of projects are often my favorite: pretty materials, a cinch to assemble, and so wearable. Here's the latest project that ticks all those boxes, a simple DIY crystal cuff bracelet. It's going to be a new MVP on my wrist this season! However, from a DIY blogger's perspective, these simple but simply irresistible projects can drive me crazy too, because I become so impatient to make them that I don't want to photograph the steps. I love you guys and all, but sometimes I just want to make and wear! Thankfully for all of us, I can move my photography "studio" to the floor of my bathroom where the light's good enough at night. And there you have it folks, the glamorous world of blogging.
