DIY Button Cord Bracelet

This week I've been talking about cord bracelets, which I've had on the brain since discovering I still have tons of this diamond braid rope. By adding other odds and ends from my craft supplies (leftover string, a decorative button from my grandmother), I created a pretty DIY rope bracelet with a special touch of sparkle.

Tools and materials:
Waxed cotton string
Rhinestone button-- mine's vintage
1 foot of colorful cord (found at hardware store)
Scissors
Needle and thread
Lighter

To make this DIY cord bracelet, (1) make a loop on one end of the cord and (2) use the needle and thread to sew the button's shank to both sides of the cord loop. (3) Pull the thread tightly and knot underneath the button to conceal the knot. This next step isn't pictured, but at this point I used the lighter to (carefully!) fuse the cord onto itself, then (4) wrapped and tied the cotton string around the fused spot.  Alternatively, you could use glue to attach the rope onto itself, then wrap with the string. (5) Repeat attaching the cord together on the other end of the cord, making a loop that is just big enough to go over the button.

I'm not sure what I like best about this one-- the turquoise color, the vintage button, or the memories of summer attached to this cord!

  12. Really love the contrast of materials -- the playfulness of the green friendship bracelet cord reminds me of my childhood and the 90's, in general. Especially like the combination of the funky green and the sophistication of the crystal button.

Can't wait to try it out for myself :-)
